Frequently asked questions

What is HEIC format?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's default photo format since iOS 11. It uses advanced compression to create smaller files than JPG while maintaining quality. However, it's not widely supported outside Apple devices.
Why can't I open HEIC files?
HEIC files require specific software support. Windows 10/11 needs the HEIC extension, and many websites and apps don't accept HEIC. Converting to JPG solves all compatibility issues.
Will I lose quality?
Our converter uses high quality settings (92%) for the JPG output. The result is visually identical to the original for most purposes. For archival, consider converting to PNG instead.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No! All conversion happens directly in your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your photos never leave your device - they're never uploaded to any server. This is especially important for private photos.
